প্রশ্নে বলা হচ্ছে, একটি ক্লাসে ১২০ জন ছাত্র রয়েছে। জোড় রোল নম্বরধারী ছাত্রগুলো পদার্থ নিয়েছে। ১২০ কে ৫ দ্বারা বিভাজ্য রোল নম্বরধারী ছাত্রগুলো রসায়ন এবং ৭ দ্বারা বিভাজ্য রোল নম্বরধারী ছাত্রগুলো অংক নিয়েছে। কত ছাত্র তিনটি বিষয়ের কোনটি নেয়নি? দেওয়া আছে, মোট ছাত্র 120 জন । ∴ পদার্থ নিয়েছে =120/2 = 60 জন ∴ রসায়ন নিয়েছে =120/5 = 24 জন এবং অংক নিয়েছে = 120/7 = 17.143 ≈ 17 জন ধরি, পদার্থ নেয়া ছাত্রগুলোর সংখ্যা A; রসায়ন নেয়া ছাত্রগুলোর সংখ্যা B এবং অংক নেয়া ছাত্রগুলোর সংখ্যা C. 10, 20 এবং 30 রোল নম্বরধারী ছাত্রগুলো পদার্থ ও রসায়ন উভয় বিষয়ই নিয়েছে। ∴ A∪B =120/20 = 12 জন আবার 14, 28 এবং 42 রোল নম্বরধারী ছাত্রগুলো পদার্থ ও অংক উভয় বিষয়ই নিয়েছে । ∴ C∪A =120/14 = 8.57 ≈ 8 জন । আবার 35 এবং 70 রোল নম্বরধারী ছাত্রগুলো রসায়ন ও অংক উভয় বিষয়ই নিয়েছে। ∴ B∪C = 120/35 = 3.42 ≈ 3 জন ∴ A ∪ B ∪ C = 60 + 24 + 17 – (12 + 8 + 3 – 1) = 79 জন তিনটি বিষয়ের কোনটিই নেয়নি এমন ছাত্রসংখ্যা = 120 - 79 = 41 জন ৷
